ACTIVITIES

The foundation will focus on Kenya largely but it will create and develop a model of reciprocal culture contact through languages, which can be used and modified by other regions in Africa and the world. It will work with similarly motivated organizations in Africa.

The foundation will therefore:

• Support the construction and the maintenance of the Ngũgĩ Wa Thiong’o Cultural, Archival, Performance and Research Center in Limuru, Kenya, to promote activities consonant with the aims and mission of the Foundation. 
  
• The proposed Ngũgĩ wa Thiong’o center should be a hub for research, seminars, and conferences on African languages.
• In Kenya, the foundation will work largely through and in alliance with this Center, whatever its final name; but also through and in alliance with organizations with similar vision and commitment.
•  In Africa, it will work with other organizations committed to a similar vision.
• Run or help generate any and every business in the furtherance of the usage of African languages in Kenya and the Continent.
• Champion and advocate at the very least bilingualism in education, ie. two language policy, Mother tongue + whatever is the official national language or trilingualism, ie. a three language policy, Mother tongue + lingua franca + whatever is the official language. For example, in Kenya and East Africa it would be: Mother tongue + Kiswahili + English.
• Support museums, with a focus on community arts and artists.
• Support grassroots based activities and innovations in technology.
